Military Community
In accordance with 19 TAC §228.35(a)(5)(A), military service members and veterans may receive credit toward educator certification requirements for verified military service, training, or education that directly relates to the certificate they are seeking. This credit may apply to training, education, work experience, or related requirements—excluding certification exams. For more information, contact the Education Department.
Effective September 1, 2015, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) waives specific fees for eligible military service members, veterans, and military spouses. For details, click below.

Substitution of Prior Service, Training, or Education for Certification Requirements
In accordance with 19 TAC §228.35(a)(5)(B), individuals who are not military service members or veterans may substitute prior or ongoing service, training, or education toward educator certification requirements if the following conditions are met:

The experience, education, or training is not counted as part of the internship, clinical teaching, or practicum requirements.

An approved Educator Preparation Program (EPP) or an accredited institution of higher education provided the experience, education, or training within the last five years.

The experience, education, or training directly relates to the sought certificate.
