Though final approval is still pending, the Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing (PHSSN) Consortium between Hardin-Simmons and McMurry Universities is set to end in the spring of 2025. PHSSN is soon to be under sole partnership with McMurry University as HSU works to establish its own nursing education program in-house. This comes after the mid-2010s departure of Abilene Christian University from that same consortium for similar reasons. PHSSN Programs Director Dr. Marcia Straughn said the change will not impact the services or staffing the school has to offer.
Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing prepares graduates of the nursing program to function as entry level nurse generalist and change agents in the delivery of a broad spectrum of health services required by society. Baccalaureate education also provides the foundational skills and knowledge required for graduate nursing education. The educational experiences are designed to assist students to develop an understanding of the nursing role in today’s complex health care environment.
