(Abilene, TX – September 21, 2022) McMurry University is proud to be recognized for the 27th consecutive year by U.S. News & World Report Best College Guide. McMurry University ranked 26 out of 102 in Best Regional Colleges in the West Region. McMurry exemplifies characteristics that advance student societal mobility and is deeply committed to student success. The University was again recognized in the #17 spot in Social Mobility. This past year the University expanded its student support services by launching the War Hawk Success Center.

McMurry was also recognized on web-exclusive lists for Economic Diversity (#10) and Ethnic Diversity (#12). McMurry is recognized as a Hispanic-Serving Institution dating back to 2016.

The U.S. News & World Report notes that economically disadvantaged students are less likely to finish college, even when controlling for other characteristics. Some colleges are more successful at advancing social mobility by enrolling and graduating larger proportions of disadvantaged students awarded with Pell Grants.

“McMurry is honored to continue to be ranked by U.S. News & World Report for 27 consecutive years,” President Sandra S. Harper, Ph.D. said. “The social mobility ranking continues to be important to McMurry because it reflects the micro-transformational impact the institution is having on families when their first-generation receives their degree.” Harper added, ”Our faculty and staff are deeply committed to student success, which continues to be the driving factor in the quality of education McMurry provides. Yet again, to have their diligence and work rewarded by ranking in this category is very fulfilling.”

According to U.S. News and World Report, rankings are based on seven categories: assessment by administrators at peer institutions, retention of students, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, alums giving, and graduation rate performance.
