09/17/2021 Campus Events McMurry News

(Abilene, TX – September 17, 2021) McMurry University will celebrate its 98th year with Fall Convocation on Thursday, September 23 in Radford Auditorium. Marching one year closer to the University’s Centennial, McMurry will look to celebrate innovation in education.

McMurry’s traditional processional led by faculty will begin the journey from the Campus Center to Radford Auditorium beginning at 11 a.m.

The convocation address will be given by McMurry graduate, Kerry Goff ’10. Goff serves as the Instructor of Theatre and Department Chair at McMurry University and the Artistic and Technical Director for the McMurry Summer Theatre in Abilene. A 2010 graduate of McMurry University majoring in fine arts and a Master of Arts in theatre, focusing in Arts Administration from Rowan University, Goff is a proud 6th generation family member of Fredericksburg, Texas. Having been bit by the theatre bug as a junior in high school, he followed a path of volunteering for community theatre working on over 20 productions in the Texas Hill Country before pursuing a theatre degree at McMurry University. Goff was very active in the theatre department at McMurry performing in over 34 production during his four years. From 2010-2018, he served as Artistic and Technical Director for the acclaimed Fredericksburg Theater Company and instructor for the Freddyburg Youth Theater, a youth theatre group at FTC founded by his wife Ashleigh. While serving at the Fredericksburg Theater Company, Goff helped grow the organization from 150 nights active to over 300 nights active, offering a season of plays, musicals, youth productions special events, community events, and private rentals. Though his expansive teaching load, ranging from acting, directing, design, management, and stagecraft, keeps him quite busy, Goff also finds time to dedicate to directing and designing a multitude of plays and musicals that feature students, alumni, and the community at large.

McMurry President Dr. Sandra Harper will preside over the event and will kick-off the year’s Centennial theme of innovation, celebrating faculty and students coming together to explore, research and use tools and insights to uncover something new.
