Required Documentation

Submit the following documents to McMurry’s VA Certifying Official before the end of your first semester. The Certificate of Eligibility must be submitted before your first certification to receive educational benefits.

Certificate of Eligibility

Submit your VA Letter or Certificate of Eligibility, or similar document, to the VA Certifying Official before your first certification.

Prior Transcripts

Provide transcripts from all colleges, universities, and military branches attended before McMurry.

High School Transcript

Required for some students only. Check with the VA Certifying Official if you are unsure.

Required only for retired or separated veterans.

Submission Reminder

Required documents must be submitted before the end of your first semester at McMurry University. Your Certificate of Eligibility is needed before McMurry can complete your first VA certification.

After You Apply

Some VA education benefit users must verify enrollment each month to continue receiving benefits.

Monthly Enrollment Verification

Students using Chapter 30 or Chapter 1606 must verify enrollment with the Department of Veterans Affairs at the end of each month.

Yellow Ribbon Program

McMurry University participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program for qualifying students using Post-9/11 GI Bill® education benefits at the 100% rate.

Who May Qualify

Students receiving Post-9/11 GI Bill® education benefits at the 100% rate may qualify to participate.

What It Covers

Yellow Ribbon helps cover the remaining tuition and fees after the annual VA cap for private university tuition is reached.

How Costs Are Shared

McMurry pays one-half of the remaining eligible tuition and fees, and the VA pays the other half.

Important Eligibility Note

Recipients of the Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship are not eligible to receive Yellow Ribbon benefits.

Hazlewood Act

Important Notice

McMurry University is a private institution and is unable to participate in the Hazlewood Act. This benefit may be used at eligible public or state institutions in Texas.

What this means

Students planning to use Hazlewood benefits should contact the appropriate Texas public or state institution to confirm eligibility and next steps.

Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E)

Veteran Readiness and Employment, also known as Chapter 31, supports eligible veterans with a service-connected disability who need assistance preparing for, finding, or maintaining suitable employment.

Contact the VA First

Students using VR&E benefits should first contact the Department of Veterans Affairs office in Abilene.

Receive VA Approval

After approval, the VA will provide authorization documentation directly to McMurry University.

Submit Required Documents

VR&E students must still provide the same required documentation as other GI Bill® recipients, except for the Letter of Eligibility.
