(Abilene, TX – October 7, 2021) McMurry University will host alumni and friends back on campus for Homecoming 2021 October 14-16. After a virtual Homecoming in 2020, the University is excited to welcome everyone back to campus. Homecoming festivities begin on Thursday and the celebration continues through Saturday with activities for the whole family.

The Kickoff to Homecoming 2021 marks the beginning of the weekend on Thursday at 5 p.m. with a ceremony celebrating new beginnings and embracing the rich history of McMurry. Continuing an annual Homecoming Friends of the Library Lecture Series, McMurry Sociology Professor Dr. Robert Wallace will present “My Life in Crime: The State of Serendipity” at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Jay-Rollins Library.

The McMurry Theatre Department will be presenting “The Addams Family” musical in Radford Auditorium each night beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12.

Beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday is the first of many new additions to McMurry’s Homecoming weekend, the Celebrating Together Festival. The festival is a street-style event for all ages featuring music, games, demonstrations, hands-on learning, arts and crafts and local food vendors. Festival goers can expect to see local food favorites such as Hearts BBQ, Tacolote, Espressoak, and Life of Pie as well as the APD K9 Unit, the Falconer and the Pumpkin Man.

Following the festival, at 9 p.m. is the traditional bonfire and pep rally in Wah Wahtaysee Park followed by another new Homecoming event, the Lawn Jam Concert from 9:30 p.m. to 12 a.m. in President Lawn. Grab a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy an evening of live music from local artists Della Rose, Weston and the Evergreen, Krystofer Campos and DJ Mike Limones.

Setting the stage for many War Hawk team competitions on Saturday, students and alumni will show their McMurry spirit and pride on a mile-long walking parade around campus at 10 a.m. Saturday morning. Athletic events for the day include volleyball at 12 p.m. in Kimbrell Arena, the Homecoming football game against Austin College at 1 p.m. in Wilford Moore Stadium, and men’s and women’s soccer from 5-9:30 p.m. in Wilford Moore Stadium.
