McMurry University is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Cynthia Martin as the permanent Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty, following her service in the interim role since July 2024.
A dedicated scholar, teacher, and leader, Dr. Martin has been a valued member of the McMurry community for more than two decades. Since joining the Department of Mathematics in 2003, she has advanced through the faculty ranks while taking on key leadership roles across the University that supported excellence in teaching, learning, and student achievement.
“I am deeply honored to serve as Vice President for Academic Affairs at McMurry University,” Dr. Martin said. “It is a privilege to work alongside dedicated faculty and staff committed to our students’ success. I look forward to building on the strong foundation of our academic programs and support services that empower students to thrive. Together, we will continue to challenge students to engage with our complex world and prepare them for lives of leadership, service, and professional achievement.”
Before her interim appointment, Dr. Martin served as associate vice president of academic affairs for student success, where she guided student-centered initiatives to strengthen retention and support academic achievement. From 2016 to 2021, she directed McMurry’s First Year Experience program, building a strong foundation for student engagement and persistence.
Dr. Martin holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Texas Tech University and a Bachelor of Science from Howard Payne University. Her academic career began at Texas Tech, where she taught as a graduate instructor and served as a research assistant before joining McMurry.
“Dr. Martin has shown exceptional commitment to McMurry’s mission and students,” said University President Dr. Lynne Murray. “Her leadership has been instrumental in advancing academic excellence, and we are thrilled to have her continue guiding our academic vision as vice president.”
McMurry also celebrates the leadership of two other key administrators. Dr. Grant Greenwood has been promoted from interim to permanent Chief Operations Officer, continuing his role as vice president for enrollment management. Mike Johnston, director of human resources & compliance, will also serve as chief of staff. Their exemplary service and leadership are deeply appreciated as McMurry begins the Fall 2025 semester.
