McMurry University is proud to announce that its Bachelor of Science in Nursing program achieved a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX-RN exam for first-time test takers in 2025—an accomplishment that ranks the program among the top nursing schools in Texas. Notably, McMurry’s Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing is the only program in Abilene to reach this milestone in 2025.

A total of 19 graduates from the December 2024 and May 2025 cohorts sat for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) between January 1 and December 31, 2025, and every graduate passed on their first attempt.

This achievement distinguishes McMurry’s program not only in the region but at the state level. Among 63 BSN programs in Texas, McMurry is one of only eight to reach a perfect first-time pass rate. When including all registered nursing education pathways, McMurry ranks among just 11 programs out of 138 statewide to achieve this benchmark.

“This 100% pass rate is more than a statistic—it represents lives changed, and communities strengthened,” Dean of the School of Nursing and Professor of Nursing Dr. Marcia Straughn said. “Our graduates are entering the profession fully prepared to provide exceptional care, and we are incredibly proud of the role McMurry plays in shaping the future of healthcare. As this is the first year that the nursing school has been solely owned and operated by McMurry University, this outcome should give the public confidence that the school’s history of providing nursing education at the highest quality will continue into the future.”

The program’s success reflects a comprehensive approach to nursing education grounded in academic rigor, hands-on clinical experience, and strong institutional support. Faculty dedication, administrative investment, and meaningful partnerships with clinical providers have created an environment where students are both challenged and supported.

As healthcare demands continue to grow, McMurry University remains committed to preparing highly skilled, compassionate nurses ready to serve their communities with excellence.
