$10 Million Donation to Fund Key University Initiatives

McMurry University has received the largest outright gift in its history, a $10 million donation from an anonymous donor. This transformative contribution will support several major initiatives, including:

  • $2 million to support the Center for Business Excellence, enhancing resources and opportunities for business students.
  • $3 million for student scholarships to support student success, retention, and graduation.
  • $5 million for the development of new proposed athletics facilities, further strengthening the university’s athletic programs.

“This commitment demonstrates the willingness of our constituents to continue investing in the future success of McMurry,” said Vice President for Institutional Advancement Mike Hutchison. “We are immensely grateful for this profound show of support.”

This historic gift marks a new level of philanthropy for McMurry University, coming at a pivotal moment of leadership transition. After 21 years of distinguished service to McMurry University, from both her time as a faculty member and for her 11 years as president, Dr. Sandra S. Harper will retire as president in January 2025. Dr. Lynne Murray is set to succeed Dr. Harper and continue building on her legacy, starting on January 10, 2025.

“We are thankful for those who recognize the value of higher education and the unique opportunities McMurry provides for our students, faculty, and staff,” said Dr. Harper. “This gift will have a lasting impact on our university and the broader Abilene community.”

McMurry is grateful to all the donors who have continued to support its mission. To learn more about how a contribution to McMurry can impact a student’s life, please visit Giving | McMurry University.
