PAL connects McMurry students with collaborative academic support that strengthens understanding, builds confidence, and encourages independent learning.

Through the McMurry Writing Center, The Hub, and Supplemental Instruction, students can work with trained peers, faculty, and professional tutors to develop academic skills and succeed in challenging coursework.

Work with trained peer writing tutors at any stage of the writing process—from brainstorming and drafting to revision, sources, and citations.

The Hub

Find peer tutoring primarily for STEM and Business courses, along with select faculty tutoring and professional tutoring for advanced coursework.

Supplemental Instruction

Join peer-led sessions for historically challenging courses and strengthen your understanding through active learning, discussion, and collaboration.

Strengthen Your Writing

The McMurry Writing Center provides collaborative, peer-based support for students across disciplines and at every stage of the writing process.

Writing tutors can help you:

  • Brainstorm and develop ideas
  • Understand writing assignments
  • Organize and develop drafts
  • Strengthen arguments and supporting ideas
  • Revise for clarity and effectiveness
  • Work with research and citations
  • Develop long-term writing strategies

Writers of all backgrounds and experience levels are welcome, and no appointment is required during regular hours of operation.

Get Help With Challenging Coursework

The Hub provides collaborative academic support primarily for STEM and Business courses through peer, faculty, and professional tutoring.

Students can find:

  • One-on-one and group peer tutoring
  • Support primarily for STEM and Business courses
  • Select faculty tutoring sessions
  • Professional tutoring for upper-level math and physics
  • Professional tutoring for select kinesiology courses

Peer tutoring does not require an appointment. Walk-ins are also welcome for professional tutoring, although appointments are strongly recommended to secure a spot.

Learn Together in Challenging Courses

Supplemental Instruction (SI) provides peer-led academic support for historically challenging courses through active learning and collaboration.

SI gives students opportunities to:

  • Work with an SI leader who previously succeeded in the course
  • Review and apply important course concepts
  • Practice problem-solving and study strategies
  • Learn collaboratively with other students
  • Ask questions in a supportive environment
  • Visit SI leaders during office hours in The Hub

SI leaders attend the current semester’s course and use their experience with the material to help students engage more deeply with what they are learning.

Attend Supplemental Instruction sessions to work collaboratively with an SI leader and other students in historically challenging courses.
