Immediate Danger

Call 911 or Campus Security

Move to a safe location if you can do so safely. Help is available at any time.

What to Do After a Sexual Assault

What happened is not your fault. You may choose which steps feel right for you. Medical care, advocacy, counseling, and supportive resources are available whether or not you report the assault to law enforcement or the University.

1

Prioritize Your Safety

  • Move to a safe place if possible.
  • Call 911 if you are in immediate danger.
  • Call Campus Security at 325-793-4666.
  • Contact someone you trust for support.
2

Consider Medical Care

Medical professionals can treat injuries, discuss pregnancy and sexually transmitted infection prevention, and explain options for a forensic examination.

You can seek medical care even if you do not want to make a police report.

3

Connect With Support

A confidential advocate or counselor can listen, help you consider your options, assist with safety planning, and connect you with additional resources.

If You May Want Evidence Collected

If possible, avoid bathing, showering, changing clothes, washing bedding, or disturbing the location where the assault occurred before receiving medical care.

If you have already done any of these things, you can still receive medical care, request an examination, and seek support.

Medical Care and Confidential Support

You do not have to make these decisions alone.
