Writing Support for Every Student
The McMurry Writing Center is a collaborative space where students can strengthen their writing, critical thinking, and confidence with support from trained peer writing tutors.
Writers of all backgrounds, disciplines, and experience levels are welcome. Whether you are just getting started or putting the finishing touches on an assignment, tutors can help you develop strategies that strengthen both your current work and your long-term growth as a writer.
Brainstorm & Plan
Explore ideas, better understand an assignment, clarify your purpose, and organize an approach before you begin writing.
Draft & Develop
Work through organization, arguments, supporting ideas, transitions, and other parts of a developing draft.
Revise & Refine
Use constructive feedback to strengthen clarity, organization, effectiveness, and other areas of your writing.
Work With Sources
Learn strategies for incorporating research, citing sources correctly, and maintaining academic integrity.
What to Expect
Writing Center tutoring is collaborative. Tutors work with you to strengthen your writing process—not simply fix an assignment for you.
Collaborate With a Tutor
Talk through your ideas and receive specific, constructive feedback based on your writing goals.
Stay in Control of Your Work
Tutors help you identify opportunities for improvement while you remain responsible for the decisions you make as a writer.
Develop Long-Term Skills
The goal is to help you become a more confident and effective writer—not simply clean up one assignment.
Every writer is welcome. The Writing Center supports students of all backgrounds and experience levels at every stage of the writing process.
