McMurry Student Employment Overview

Student employment at McMurry University is coordinated through the Work Study Office in partnership with Financial Aid and campus department employers. The Work Study Coordinator guides students through the hiring process, confirming eligibility, applying for positions, and completing required payroll documents.

All student employment, referred to as “Work Study,” allows students who are awarded federal or university funds through financial aid to earn wages through campus employment, unlike limited, part-time student employment positions.

  • The Office of Financial Aid determines eligibility and the source of award funding.
  • Contact your Financial Aid advisor at 325-793-4713 to confirm eligibility.
  • Students must accept their award from Financial Aid before applying for positions.
  • Students apply for open positions through the McMurry Employment Portal.
  • Department supervisors conduct interviews and make hiring decisions.
  • Positions are competitive and not guaranteed.

Standard Award:
Up to 10 hours per week during each 16-week fall and spring semester.

Summer Employment:
Requires enrollment in summer courses.

All student employees must meet Office of Financial Aid requirements, regardless of job type or funding source.

Before You Can Work:

  • Submit all required documents to financial aid by August 1st.
  • Confirm that Financial Aid has all the information requested from you.

First-Time Student Employees Must Provide:

  • A valid Social Security number
  • Original acceptable identification (copies not accepted)
  • Direct deposit banking information
  • Federal payroll forms (W-4, I-9, Direct Deposit) to be completed in the office of the work study coordinator

Some departments recruit students for specialized roles that require specific academic prerequisites and/or technical skills.

  • These positions are not publicly posted.
  • Departments recruit and pre-select student candidates.
  • Financial Aid must verify eligibility before placement.

Once registered for classes, you may apply for available positions.

Important:
Monitor your McM student email during the first week of August for the annual Work Study Instructions.
