Our Purpose

Student Accessibility Services is committed to ensuring that students with disabilities can fully participate in all aspects of the college experience. We promote a barrier-free campus environment and actively support disability awareness across the University community through programs and services designed to meet students’ academic and professional needs.

Qualified students with disabilities will not be excluded from participation in, denied the benefits of, or subjected to discrimination in any University service, program, or activity based on disability.

Eligibility & Documentation

Students seeking accommodations must provide Student Accessibility Services with current documentation that identifies and describes the disability.

Documentation should be submitted at the beginning of the semester. It must be completed by a licensed or certified professional qualified to assess the disability, such as a psychologist, physician, or educational diagnostician.

When to Contact Us

Students are encouraged to contact Student Accessibility Services before their first semester begins—or as soon as a disability is diagnosed—to discuss academic needs and available support. Once appropriate documentation is on file, reasonable accommodations may be approved.

Services We Provide

  • Academic and testing accommodations
  • Accommodations for participation in university-sponsored activities
  • Notifying faculty of necessary and appropriate accommodations
  • Assistance in identifying local and community services
  • Assistance with temporary disabilities

Confidentiality

Information regarding a student’s disability and the need for accommodations is not considered public information and will be treated as confidential. Student Accessibility Services will not disclose specific details regarding a student’s disability.

Students with disabilities should be treated with the same dignity, respect, and courtesy as all students in the classroom. Questions regarding confidentiality may be directed to Student Accessibility Services.

Information for Online Degree Students

Online students should complete the online Application for Accommodations and submit it, along with all required documentation, via fax or email to the Student Accessibility Services Coordinator for review. Students will be contacted regarding the status of their request.

Students are encouraged to apply at least 30 days before the start of their initial semester to allow adequate time to coordinate accommodations. Students should retain a personal copy of all submitted documentation.

All documentation will remain confidential, except where disclosure is permitted or required by law, and will be used solely to determine reasonable accommodations. Securing appropriate documentation is the student’s responsibility. McMurry University’s documentation criteria align with the 1997 guidelines of the Association on Higher Education and Disability.
