About the Alumni Association Board of Directors

Dedicated to advancing McMurry University, the Alumni Association Board of Directors supports the University’s strategic initiatives and fosters meaningful relationships between alumni and the campus community. The Board also works to raise awareness of the McMurry Alumni Association, reflecting the University’s mission and core values.

The Alumni Board is composed of 30 members, each serving a three-year term.

Meetings are held three times a year: in July to prepare for the new board year, during Homecoming in the fall, and at Spring Alumni Weekend.

Serving on the Alumni Association Board

Members of the McMurry Alumni Association Board of Directors are elected based on their demonstrated involvement, support, and commitment to McMurry University and the Alumni Association. Board members accept a three-year term and agree to carry out their duties and responsibilities to the best of their ability.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Actively support the Alumni Association with your time, energy, and resources.
  • Serve as an engaged board member by attending meetings, participating on at least one committee, and volunteering for special projects when possible.
  • Make an annual financial contribution to the University.
  • Participate in programs and activities organized by the Office of Alumni Engagement.
  • Help build and strengthen alumni communities by joining or establishing a local alumni chapter or affinity group. Contribute by recruiting local leadership, attending area events, meeting prospective students, and hosting or sponsoring gatherings in your community.
  • Serve as a proud ambassador for McMurry University at all times.

Role of the Alumni Board

  • Recognize and celebrate outstanding alumni commitment and leadership.
  • Identify, cultivate, and train future leaders for the Alumni Board.
  • Support the University’s strategic goals whenever possible.
  • Promote meaningful engagement with alumni, students, and friends of the University.
  • Guide and evaluate the direction and impact of board initiatives, events, and programs.
  • Explore new ways to serve and connect with the alumni community.

Development Committee

  • Advocate for alumni giving and help cultivate a culture of philanthropy within the McMurry community.
  • Participate in fundraising programs and events that support University initiatives.
  • Propose and implement ideas to increase financial support and encourage local businesses to invest in campus programs and activities.

Engagement Committee

  • Advise on the direction of programming to strengthen alumni and student engagement.
  • Identify opportunities to connect students with alumni and raise awareness of the Alumni Association on campus.
  • Promote and encourage alumni participation in support of McMurry’s mission and the Alumni Board’s purpose.

Membership Committee

  • Cultivate new leadership for the Alumni Board by developing and executing a process to identify, recruit, and assess prospective members.
  • Create a pipeline of qualified candidates to enhance recruitment efforts.
  • Plan and implement orientation for new board members, held in conjunction with the summer meeting. All new members are expected to attend this session in person.

Recognition Committee

  • Identify and honor McMurry alumni who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and service.
  • Promote and coordinate the selection of the Alumni Association’s annual awards, including the Distinguished Alumni Award and the Young Alumni Achievement Award.

Recruitment Committee

  • Support the Office of Admissions by engaging alumni in activities and programs that advance student recruitment goals.
  • Develop outreach efforts to promote the Alumni Recruiting Ambassadors program and identify alumni interested in recruitment.
  • Refer prospective students to the Office of Admissions and encourage talented and qualified students to apply to McMurry.

Nominate an Alum to the Board

The Alumni Board elects new members and alternates each year at the spring meeting. To nominate yourself or another alum, please complete the online nomination form by February 15, 2026.
