McMurry University is a campus community located in west central Texas focused on providing students with a well-rounded education and preparation for career. McMurry is ranked as one of the best value universities in the South and a top 10 small university in Texas. Our vibrant campus community provides numerous ways to get connected and involved. International students are assigned a student success coach to guide them through their education and to serve as a mentor as you get accustomed to our community. McMurry is located in Abilene, Texas, a mid-sized city of 125,000 with a great downtown scene, low-cost of living, and close proximity to major metro cities in Texas.
McMurry University is a campus community with student representation from around the globe. For the most recent Fall cohort, applications were received from students in over 60 countries.
How to Apply
- Submit your free online application
- Submit official transcripts showing a complete academic history, including all courses taken and grades earned, from high school and any colleges attended. If your school is abroad, transcripts must be translated into English and include grading scales.
- If your native language is not English, submit proof of:
a. Duolingo English Test score of at least 105
b. TOEFL score of at least 213 computer-based, 550 paper-based, or 79 Internet-based
c. IELTS score of at least 6.5 or
d. 24 transferrable hours from a regionally accredited U.S. institution, including English 1310 and English 1320 - Copy of Passport
- Scores from the SAT/ACT exams are not required, unless used as the Proof of English Proficiency, but are highly encouraged
After all items are received, application files will be processed. Admission decisions will be posted online within a student’s secure application portal. International students are encouraged to have the admission process completed at least one month prior to the start of classes.

- Pay I-901 SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) fee here.
After receiving your I-20 and paying the I-901 fee, make an appointment with the U.S. Embassy/Consulate closest to you in your home country, to apply for your F-1 Student Visa.
Upon receiving your visa, contact your Admission Counselor to coordinate your travel and arrival to campus.

Estimated Costs
Full-time undergraduate students are charged a block tuition rate and may take 12 to 18 semester hours without affecting the cost of tuition. Students must have the approval of the Vice President of Academic Affairs to take more than 18 hours a semester.

*Direct costs are those charged directly to a student’s account. Indirect Costs that are additional personal costs that may be incurred while attending the University and are not charged to the student. Total indirect costs per year are estimated at $4,812. This includes transportation, personal costs, and average loan fees. Required books are included in the cost of tuition.

Scholarships
International undergraduate students may be eligible for merit scholarships based on their secondary school GPA, test scores, or transferable college GPA. Scholarships range from $15,000 – $17,000 and are renewable for four years. Scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis after admission. Post-baccalaureate students seeking a second degree are not eligible for institutional merit scholarships.
Interested international undergraduate students are encouraged to apply for the McMurry University Honors program. International students who are accepted into the honors program may receive additional aid. Eligible students may submit Honors applications through the application portal after being admitted.

About Abilene, Texas
Abilene, Texas is a regional hub with wide-open spaces and a charming small-town vibe. Recognized as one of the best places to live in the state, Abilene is home to nearly 125,000 people—including 11,000 students at the city’s three private universities and a U.S. Air Force Base.
Important industries in the region include banking, education, healthcare, agriculture and ranching, engineering, oil and gas, manufacturing and renewable resources. McMurry University works closely with area businesses to provide internships that let students explore careers and gain real-world skills.
Abilene is an active community with a vibrant arts and music scene, historic museums, and dining and entertainment venues. For big city lovers, Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio are easy to reach. Outdoor recreational opportunities are all around, including hiking and biking trails in and around town.
Beautiful Palo Duro Canyon—the second largest canyon in the U.S. is just four hours north of Abilene. Head west to Balmorhea State Park featuring a spring-fed pool in the middle of the desert, Guadalupe Peak, Big Bend National Park and Fort Davis—home to the well-known McDonald Observatory.
