GI Bill benefits help you pay for school and cover expenses while you’re training for a job. Since 1944, the GI Bill has helped qualifying Veterans and their family members obtain funding to cover all or part of the costs for education or training. If you have a service-connected disability that limits your ability to work or prevents you from working, Veteran Readiness and Employment (formerly called Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment) can help. This program, also known as Chapter 31 or VR&E, enables you to explore employment options and address your education or training needs. In some cases, your family members may also qualify for certain benefits.
The Post-9/11 GI Bill (PGIB), or Chapter 33, helps you pay for school or cover expenses while you’re training for a job. If you’ve served on active duty after September 10, 2001, you may qualify for the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Find out if you can get this education benefit.

VA education benefits help Veterans, service members, and their qualified family members with needs such as paying college tuition, finding the right school or training program, and receiving career counseling. Learn how to apply for and manage the education and training benefits you’ve earned.
McMurry University is approved to offer assistance to students using Veterans Administration benefits for educational purposes. All students using these benefits must contact the Veterans Certifying Official in the Registrar’s Office on the campus of McMurry University and provide the appropriate documentation to be certified for benefits.
Starting in January 2026, all Department of Veterans Affairs education beneficiaries, including those receiving Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (Chapter 35), will be required to verify their enrollment each month to receive their benefit payments. Please note that you must verify your enrollment for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to begin processing your monthly benefit. Once verified, payment processing can take five to seven calendar days.
