Mission
The goal of the McMurry Writing Center is to create a space in which students, tutors, and faculty can collaborate to improve written communication skills and critical thinking, skills students need to thrive not just in a university setting but in our text-based society.
The Writing Center accomplishes its mission by:
- Empowering Writers: Helping students become more confident and effective writers, rather than fixing errors.
- A Place for Every Writer: Writers of all backgrounds and experience levels are welcome and valued here.
- Focus on Process: Guiding students through the writing process, from brainstorming to revision.
- Constructive Feedback: Providing specific, targeted feedback to help students identify areas for improvement.
- Ethical Writing Practices: Highlighting the importance of academic integrity and correctly referencing the work of others.
- Long-Term Growth: Focusing on developing students’ skills for the long term, rather than just “cleaning up” assignments.
