Mission

The Mindset for Success Office (MSO) empowers students to take ownership of their academic journey and personal development. Established initially through McMurry University’s Quality Enhancement Plan, the MSO has grown to coordinate several key initiatives that promote student achievement and retention.

Central to its mission is the Student Success Coaching Program, which assigns every student an Academic Success Coach who provides proactive, personalized support—academically and holistically.

Key Services and Programs

McMurry University believes in empowering its students with the knowledge and confidence to be successful on campus. We understand that every student has different obstacles they may have to overcome to do so. Thus, Academic Success Coaches help create a personalized success plan for each student. Success Coaches will work with their students to navigate obstacles or answer questions.

What is a Success Coach?

Every student will have an Academic Success Coach from start to finish at McMurry University. The first point of contact with a Success Coach will be at SOAR. Your success coach will be your point of contact for any questions you might have while at McMurry University. Especially in your first year when everything is new, your success coach can help you navigate university policies and procedures, lend support, and connect with other resources on campus.

The Early Alert program proactively identifies and supports students experiencing academic or personal challenges. Faculty and staff may submit an Early Alert at any point during the semester.

An interactive, online resource that introduces incoming students to essential academic tools, campus expectations, and success strategies before arrival.

Dedicated academic advising tailored to the needs of online and distance-learning students, ensuring access to resources and consistent support.

Group sessions cover study skills, test preparation, stress management, and goal setting to support holistic student development.

Tools and guidance for career exploration, résumé building, internship preparation, and graduate school planning.
